For the second straight year, senior Colby Coleman is the KHSAA Region 5 diving champion. Colby won the competition Feb. 8 at Transylvania University.
He scored a 512 on 11 dives, not as good as his personal best of 557, but enough to break the Transy pool record of 497.
"I'm glad I broke the pool record but 512 isn't a very good score compared to my personal best of 557," he said. "I feel like I could have done better on a couple of my dives."
Colby will have time to perfect his dives before state competition Feb. 23 and 25 at the University of Louisville. He trains for
2-1/2 hours Mondays-Thursdays with Coach Tom Gimm, the University of Kentucky club coach. Jamie Palumbo is Colby's high school dive coach.
Colby recently signed a diving scholarship with UK.
