 Coleman wins UK Invitational
with state record score

GRC senior and defending 10th Region diving champion Colby Coleman won the University of Kentucky Invitational Jan. 21 against 22 competitors. With his score of 557 on 11 dives, Coleman set not only his personal all-time high score, but broke the state record of 551.

"I did have somewhat of an advantage because it was at the pool I dive at every day so I am used to the boards and the facility," Coleman said. The second and third-place finishers also posted personal best high scores.

Coleman will compete in the University of Louisville Invitational Jan. 28. "Every meet is preparation for state," he said. "In practice, you don't have all the pressure and nerves that you have in a meet."

Kentucky divers are required to go to two meets to qualify for regions and state, but Coleman said he goes to all the meets he can "for experience and practice for state."
