Teen Volunteer Program

• Are you a teen with a sincere, personal desire to volunteer at UK HealthCare?
• Are you able to work independently, and are comfortable initiating conversations?
• Are you motivated and outgoing, with an interest in healthcare?
• Does your summer schedule allow you to commit to 2 shifts per week?
• Will you be 14 years old no later than March 31, 2020?


    The Summer Teen Volunteer Program is available to students who are at least 14 years old, and entering high school in the fall of 2020.

    This program allows teens an opportunity for exposure in a healthcare facility combined with education opportunities, as well as provide volunteer service to the community.

    Mandatory Orientation is on Wednesday, June 10, with an optional education day on Thursday, June 11.

    The program runs from June 17-July 26; shifts are from 9 a.m.–Noon and 1-4 p.m. with an hour lunch break from noon–1 p.m.

    Teens are required to participate in 5 of the 6 weeks, minimum of 2 shifts per week, for a total of 30 hours. Teens must provide their own lunch and transportation.

    Please note: Teen volunteers do not perform research or observe medical or patient-care procedures of any kind.

Criteria:  Plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college; demonstrate financial need and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher; plan to major in an early childhood field

Citizen Scholar Scholarship

Amount:  $1,000 (16 scholarships offered)

  • A one-page typed essay about a Republican woman you admire or who has influenced your life and why

Amount: $2,500

The KEDC Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to college
(2 or 4 year), technical or vocational bound students graduating from a high school in a KEDC member district.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $40,000

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  • demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;

  • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);

  • be citizens of the United States of America;

  • be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States (students living on U.S. Armed Forces base and homeschooled students are also eligible); and

  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.


St. Joseph Hospital Scholarship

$2,000 per year


1. A minimum of 150 hospital volunteer hours.

  1. Students must maintain a B average.

  2. Only student’s volunteer hours will be counted toward the requirement.

  3. Application must be sent in by June 1st for the fall semester.


PB&J Scholarship

Criteria:  Senior; planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college in Fall; experienced challenge in life

Amount: $500-$1000 renewable for 4 years

Criteria:  Must be African American graduating senior planning to attend BCTC; Have a 2.5 GPA or higher; Completed the FAFSA
